Welcome
Thank you for visiting my website. I am a native of the Pacific Northwest and
am currently residing in Whitefish, Montana. I am working primarily in encaustics these days, with occasional forays
into acrylics, oils, and watercolors. I have been an artist from an early age, encouraged by the many amazing artists
in my creative family. My work is collected locally and across the pond as they say. I hope you enjoy it.
What are Encaustics you ask?
Encaustics are paintings made with wax. Damar resin is added to beeswax as a hardening agent and this becomes the medium to which pigments are added to create the colors. The molten beeswax is applied to the surface, (I use wood panels) then fused with a heat gun or blow torch to strengthen each layer. The result is a lustrous enamel-like finish. Whenever possible I try to use local sources for my art supplies. The wood panels come from a company in Portland, and some of my beeswax comes from beekeepers in Eureka, MT. I am interested in conservation and have developed my artistic process to produce the least amount of waste possible.
